About the course

C1 Advanced (CAE) is one of  English Qualifications. It is the in-depth, high-level qualification that shows you have the language skills that employers and universities are looking for. More than 8,000 educational institutions, businesses and government departments around the world accept C1 Advanced as proof of high-level achievement in learning English. Preparing for C1 Advanced helps learners develop the skills to make the most of studying, working and living in English-speaking countries. This exam is the logical step in your language learning journey between B2 First and C2 Proficiency.

Objectives

This course focuses on the language skills required for each section of the exam, as well as specific skills for achieving your full potential on the day of the exam.

Morning programme: this is an advanced language course with classes covering grammar and vocabulary, reading and listening comprehension, varieties of written English and speaking practice, all of which are essential for success in this examination.

Afternoon programme: the emphasis will be on the exam preparation with special classes focusing the techniques, strategies and language necessary in all parts of the exam.

Monitoring your progress

Your classroom studies will be supported by carefully-guided homework and self-study throughout the course. Regular one-to-one tutorials are held to enable you to discuss your progress with your tutor. There will also be full mock tests so that you can see your progress, identify areas that need improvement and grow used to the pressure of the exam.

Outcomes

You will improve your accuracy and fluency in English to the level required for the C1 Advanced exam, as well as become familiar with the different papers, in order to reach your full potential.

The test has four sections:

  1. Reading & Use of English90 minutes
  2. Writing – 2 tasks , 90 minutes
  3. Listening – 40 minutes, 30 questions
  4. Speaking – interview, normally with another candidate, 15 minutes

Score
A, B, C (pass), D, E or U (fail)
CAE pass is accepted for entry to some universities.

The Reading and Use of English section counts for 40% of the marks.

The Writing, Listening & Speaking sections each count for 20% of the marks.

You will receive a Statement of Results. If your performance ranges between CEFR Levels B2 and C2, you will also receive a certificate.
